WORKSHOPS
Preparing Assets for Digital Creation
WORKSHOP
January 25th, 2021 at 10am PST/ 1pm EST and February 9th, 2021 at 9am PST/ 12pm EST
What is the difference between construction drafting and a 3D model for content creation? Why does this video file play fine on my laptop but crash the theatre's video system? This workshop is aimed at designers who are used to working in a traditional theatrical system and who are now pivoting to work digitally. Learn how to create and prepare images, audio, video, and 3D assets so that they work seamlessly with the rest of your production team. Educator and video technologist Elijah Lindenberger will be leading this class as the first in our workshop series.
Cinema 4D for Designers
WORKSHOP
February 2nd, 2021 at 12pm PST/ 3pm EST and February 6th, 2021 at 12pm PST/ 3pm EST
Stepping into the world of 3D animation and design can seem like a daunting prospect, but the world of the third dimension isn't as scary as it seems. Join video designer Emily Soussana for an introductory Cinema 4D workshop. Focused around the use of 3D environments and animation in theatre, participants will learn how to set up a scene with basic texturing and lighting techniques. As part of our workshop series, assets from the previous workshop will be used here and what is made during this workshop will be used for the next. Attendance of the previous workshop however is not mandatory.

Special guest appearance by TouchDesigner developer Matthew Ragan.
Ableton for Live Performance
WORKSHOP
February 13th, 2021 at 2pm PST/ 5pm EST
We’ve seen a lot of video throughout the symposium so now it’s time to get focused on digital sound design and show control! This workshop is aimed at novice or intermediate users of Ableton. Lead by sound designer for dance Kate De Lorme, following a bit of basic Ableton know-how you'll get the chance to deep dive into new ways to use the digital audio workspace in a live performance setting, connecting it through midi and timecode with QLab’s playback software. A great follow up to the TouchDesigner workshop earlier in the day! (TouchDesigner and Ableton are best friends don’t ya know?)
