He will discuss how each project evolved over time, the various technical components involved and how you can get started building your own custom media solutions. Suitable for all skill levels.

I AM ALAN TURING

LIVE PRODUCTION DEMONSTRATION AND DISCUSSION

January 27th, 2021 at 11am PST/ 2pm EST

I AM ALAN TURING presents a new model for creating opera, drawing on cryptography, mathematics, artificial intelligence, and Turing’s own devastating story. This exciting production—created by an international team entirely while social distancing this past year—has its music and visual design drawn from Turing’s fascination with natural patterns in the universe and from his notebooks archived at King’s College, Cambridge. Composer Matthew Suttor and a team of theatre designers and computer programmers have trained an instance of Open AI’s GPT2 natural language model on everything Turing wrote and read in his life. They interact with this language model to generate the text for a libretto, creating an expression which is uncannily Turing-esque. Join us here for a sneak peak presentation and discussion with the creative team: Matthew Suttor, Julia Schäfer, Emily Reilly, Wladimiro A. Woyno R., Dakota Stipp, Liam Bellman-Sharpe, Hugh Farrell, Tyler Kieffer, Sola Fadiran, Madeline Pages, and Frederick Kennedy.
